For hundreds of years, people have brought animals into their homes and lives as companions and friends. Anyone who has lost a pet knows the emotional pain that accompanies that loss. Experiencing such feelings is a natural and normal part of the grieving process and talking about your feelings with a skilled pet loss counselor can help to put them into perspective. This can also help you express how much your pet meant to you and how much you miss it.
There are also times, when we have to make the difficult decision to end our pet’s suffering because its physical condition has deteriorated and it is in constant pain. Although your veterinarian is the best professional to determine your pet’s physical well being, you are the best judge of your pet’s quality of life. It is at times like this, when we can help you to cope with the grief that goes along with making this choice.
The Counseling Center currently has two wonderful, solid black, female cats named Shadow and Midnight and two extremely loveable, male West Highland Terriers named Joey and Josh. We are long time pet owners and have experienced our own pet losses.
